Born in Vancouver, British Columbia, I trained and performed as a singer from an early age. School recitals, community productions and choir concerts in Europe taught me how to captivate an audience and be comfortable on stage. It also paid off in winning vocal competitions.

I studied vocal performance at Foothill College in Los Altos, California, performing with the award-winning jazz choir Fanfairs under the direction of my teacher, double Grammy nominee Phil Mattson, (arranger for The Manhattan Transfer, Chanticleer). I continued voice studies at the University of British Columbia, where a producer caught my concert performance and hired me for my first professional singing job in Seattle. Las Vegas beckoned next. I spent nine years as a principal singer under long-term contracts in Jubilee, City Lites, Lido de Paris and other shows on the Strip. While there, I earned my SAG card filming my first TV movie.

An alumni of the Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles (GMCLA), I was both a featured performer and member of a small ensemble that sang with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and LA Master Choral under the direction of Gustavo Dudamel. Also as part of GMCLA, I participated in Joel A. Martin’s 7th CD in his Jazzical series, Jazzical Meets Menken.

Joel Ewing, PhD, is my current teacher. I have been his student since 1992, both in private and class study of Vocal Pedagogy. I began teaching private voice lessons in 1996.
